Content Filtering

Content filtering controls are key to a secure network. Inspecting email, web and FTP traffic as it enters the organisation is essential to keeping malware out and users safe. Filtering controls also preventing inappropriate email and internet use, enforcing the organisations policies on both areas.

+   Email Security

Email is the most widely used business tool in the world and is without borders. This great freedom and ease of use unfortunately brings its own issues and threats with email being an easy way to send viruses, unwanted messages (SPAM), leak data out of the organisation and send inappropriate content. Cygnia has solutions to thwart and manage all of the above and offers solutions from the leading email security vendors, these can either be on-premise or cloud solutions.

Types of Email Security “On Premise” or “In the Cloud”?

Email security comes in two forms “On Premise” or “In the Cloud”. On premise solutions reside on the organisations network, in the cloud solutions are done out on the internet by managed services providers.

On premise solutions generally tend to be more granular than in the cloud offerings, although the organisation has the overheads of power, updating the system, providing redundancy should an appliance/ server fail and updating the hardware.

Email Security

Email security checks a number of the parameters of an email as it enters in to the organisation typically this looks against the organisations email policy. The parameters are typically, if the email is considered as SPAM, the security of the email for viruses and malware and the content of the email if it has explicit words or contains confidential information. If an email does breach the policy there are a number of remediations that can be performed, these include quarantining the email, deleting it, allowing it through but reporting the event, etc.

Data Leakage Prevention

Many organisations are looking at Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) and the controls they can put in to place to manage data loss from the organisation. Cygnia’s range of email security solutions are extremely configurable and can help as part of a wider DLP strategy. With policies that go down to user level managers and administrators can control who sends and receives what and the checks and balances that are put in place to prevent information leaving the business.

Email Encryption

Email encryption provides secure transport of emails from one recipient to another. The types of encryption can vary from PGP, SMime, TLS and Web Portal Technologies as do the transport methods. PGP emails are sent from one gateway to the other whereas web portals stay on the senders network and the recipient uses an SSL session to view the email like a secure webmail session. Clearswift offers PGP, SMime, TLS and Web Portal encryption, Mimecast offers TLS encryption.

Cygnia offer solutions from industry leading email security vendors.

+   Internet Security

As the internet evolves so does the sophistication of users and threats. With a blend of issues facing the organisation from “How do we prevent users from unproductively surfing the web, but still give a level of personal access?” to “What can I do to protect my network from malicious attacks?” Cygnia has a range of solutions that fit the scope and budget of all types of scenario.

Types of Internet Security “On Premise” or “In the Cloud”?

Internet security comes in two forms “On Premise” or “In the Cloud”. On premise solutions reside on the organisations network where as in the Cloud solutions are done out on the internet by managed services providers. On premise solutions generally tend to be more granular than In the Cloud offerings, although the organisation has the overheads of power, updating the system, providing redundancy should an appliance/ server fail and updating the hardware.

Internet Security

Internet Security protects an organisation from web based threats. These include viruses and malicious code on websites and downloads. It usually also incudes URL filtering and application control as part of the package. URL filtering prevents users from accessing inappropriate or none productive websites and application control limits what a user can do on certain sites (E.g. read only on webmail) so that the users actions can be contained in the work environment.

Data Leakage Prevention (DLP)

As organisations look at Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) and the controls they can put in to place to manage data loss. The organisations concern regarding the internet are high on the list, with users having access to webmail, instant messenger, blogs, social media sites, FTP, torrents, etc, there are a huge range of possibilities for information to leave the organisation.

Cygnia’s range of internet security solutions are extremely configurable and can help as part of a wider DLP strategy. With tools such as Application Control that can allow access to webmail but block file attachments being uploaded or cut out the instant messenger function on social media sites the control administrators have is very powerful, giving managers the confidence that as part of a wider DLP strategy the organisation is doing all it can to protect its self from losing information.

+   Zero Day Protection

A zero day attack is a threat that exposes undisclosed or unpatched application vulnerabilities. Zero day attacks are considered extremely dangerous because they take advantage of security holes for which no solution is currently available.

There are a number of new advanced solutions available that protect against zero day threats. They generally look for suspicious code in email and web traffic and the open them in a virtual sandbox to see what the script wants to do. If it is found to be malicious a number of remediation routes are available from altering an administrator to cutting the network access of the device so that it cannot replicate the threat across the network.

We knew the technology could do the job and was reasonably priced. What won us over was how helpful Varonis and Cygnia were. They were really keen to help set up a demo, and were able to move quickly to get us up and working in a matter of days.
